Uh, yeah... The "Mundane Blog" is just another blogspot with random subjects and is merely floating through the blogosphere as we aimlessly delve into this thing we call life......

The original date of this post is: April 29th, 2014. Yeah, that was nearly 8 years ago. Thankfully, I have more money nowadays, but using this particular "Poor Man's Method" for a calorie per price ratio still isn't a bad idea, even if it's just used for stocking up on survival and/or emergency food, etc. But anyway, back to the original post...

Hopefully, many of you haven’t had to think of this method before, and are not a struggling low-middle class, full-time worker who doesn’t collect welfare or get monetary aid and handouts or unfortunate enough to not be born into wealth, etc.

BUT, whether you are just feeling thrifty, frugal, or simply poor like me (I’d have more money if I wouldn’t spend so much on beer and damn cigarettes!), you may find the, as I call, “Poor Man’s ‘Calories per Price’ Ratio” to be a useful guide when making purchases at your local market.

It is a simple method to use, and it is something I got to noticing a long while back, when thinking about how I can get the most calories out of my money – to be efficient when buying energy and/or fuel for my body’s demanding tank.

Okay, all you have to do is this: Take the total amount of calories (all servings added up within the can, container, package, etc.) and divide it by the price, and you will have a figure that equals the “calories per price” ratio; this will give you a good idea on how much money you’re wasting on foods that just aren’t energy efficient to a poor man’s body. Funny, but true… Ha-ha!

For example, I bought a package of Little Debbie Fudge Brownies (chocolate is good for you, damn it!) the other day. It was a package of six, 280 calories each, for $1.59. Okay, I multiplied the 280 calories times 6 to get the total amount of calories in the package, and this came out to be 1,680 calories. I divided that by $1.59 and the ‘calorie per price’ ratio was 1,056 calories per dollar. By the way, that is a really good ratio. Just think, you can buy a silly Lean Cuisine frozen dinner for $2.50 or more and only get about 2 or 3 hundred calories, but one dollar on the brownies bought over a thousand calories. Hey, are you getting the drift now?

Another example, I bought some microwavable popcorn that had a total of 2,400 calories for $3.99 and the ‘calories per price’ ratio was 601 calories per dollar. Now, it wasn’t as cheap as the brownies, but it is still way more efficient (energy wise) than the Lean Cuisine crap.

Alright, here’s where some wise ass could say, “look, rock head, junk food is going to be cheaper per calories than real food.” Then that’s when I would say, “look, dear challenged one, nobody said that this ratio had to be used on ‘junk’ food versus ‘real’ food.”

See, that’s just it right there… You can use this calculating method to compare any types of food, when it comes to calories per price. In fact, if you’re a health nut, you can alter it and start calculating a ‘price per protein’ ratio, and so on. The point is, as high as everything is today, and the fact that a lot of us are struggling to have enough funds to live comfortably, it doesn’t hurt to get the calculator out and start doing some math to help slash some of those grocery bills, utility costs, and whatnot.

Image Credit: Pixabay.com - Free to Use & Share

---End of Post "Using the Poor Man’s ‘Calories per Price’ Ratio"
Obscurely Diversehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00093125094173965474noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2500803112835450346.post-39276831147310487262022-02-17T15:06:00.000-08:002022-02-17T15:06:07.326-08:00Pink Slime in your Ground Beef?
This is an old blog post from a website of mine that I recently deleted. More concern lies in the processed foods and the meat you buy at the local market, and the produce is rarely organic, as well.

This post is mainly addressing beef, and more so, ground beef. As if the antibiotics and added hormones wasn’t enough, we run into something else, a cheap filler, known as “pink slime.” Before I say anymore, are you ready for a good ol’ supermarket hamburger?

I’ll go ahead and copy & paste a quick excerpt from Wikipedia (including my occasional bouts of commentary within the excerpt) about this subject, to get the ball rolling:

“Pink slime, also known as lean, finely textured beef (LFTB), boneless lean beef trimmings (BLBT), and soylent pink (Ha-ha! Have you ever seen the movie Soylent Green?), is a beef-based food additive that may be added to ground beef and beef-based processed meats as an inexpensive filler. It consists of finely ground beef scraps and connective tissue (sounds like reprocessed roadkill, if ya ask me) which have been mechanically removed from the fat. The recovered material (Yikes!) is processed, heated, and treated with ammonia gas or citric acid to kill E. coli, salmonella, and other bacteria (Thank you very much for doing such!). It is finely ground, compressed into blocks and flash frozen for use as an additive to beef products.

In the United States, the additive itself cannot legally be sold directly to consumers but can constitute up to 15% of ground beef without additional labeling (sort of like how they don’t have to list Trans Fat if it doesn’t reach 0.5 grams per tiny serving) and can also be added to other meat products such as beef-based processed meats. Prior to the invention of the disinfection process, beef scraps could only be sold as pet food or as an ingredient for cooking oil. (That’s good news folks, we are now eating stuff they put in pet food!)

Widespread public attention was drawn to the product in March 2012 by a series of reports at ABC News, which reported at that time that 70 percent of ground beef sold in U.S. supermarkets contained the product. Subsequently, many grocery stores and supermarkets, including the nation’s three largest chains, announced that they would no longer sell products containing the additive.”

Please note: Pink slime is not permitted in Canada. Also, Pink slime does not meet the legal requirements for sale in the United Kingdom.

What in the hell is going on here?

One of the main reasons I wanted to post this is because I have recently eaten some “real ground beef” that came from a farm-raised cow. My mom and my stepdad usually buy half of a cow on occasions from a local farmer, get it processed, cut, packaged, and they freeze it in bulk. I was over there the other day, and she gave me a few packages to sample.

Well, I generally try to buy good cuts of beef, pork, etc. But, when it comes to ground beef, I usually just snag up whatever looks decent and go on my way. I figure that ground beef from the grocery store will still taste better than fast-food burgers, for example.

Anyway, upon eating some of this “real” hamburger meat, I was like: “What in the hell is this? This tastes like steak meat or something. Dang, does hamburgers supposed to taste this good?” Ha-ha! It has been so long since I had “100% real” ground beef, that I evidently forgot what the stuff tasted like.

Oh, if you’d like to read about the controversy, consumer concerns and whatnot, go here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pink_Slime

People need to know more about what is going into their food.

And, if at all possible, grow your own edibles and either try to raise your chickens, cows, pigs, etc., or at least try to buy from a local farmer that you can trust.

This is just an informative post to help raise awareness about all the crap they are putting in our food, as if many of you didn’t already know…

All of this pink slime stuff reminds me of when I used to be a butcher. When it came time to run the ground beef from the pre-bought tubes into the grinder, it would often look “different” when compared to the hamburger meat I’d make from beef trimmings. I’m not sure if any of those cheap beef tubes had pink slime in them or not, but one thing is for sure, when I ground my own hamburger meat from lean beef mixed in with fat trimmings, it just appeared and smelled more real as opposed to that other crap they had in the tubes. Oh, and the better taste is usually a dead giveaway…

Update: Good News! There have been some recent efforts to eliminate pink slime in our ground beef in the U.S. Even McDonald’s, Burger King and Taco Bell announced they would discontinue the use of BPI products (the company that was at the center of the Pink Slime controversy) in their food. I hope this trend continues… BUT, what will they think of next? I recently read on some science site that there are experiments going on right now, where they are trying to grow meat in the lab! My gawd!

Update #2: Well, it is now the year 2019 and it seems that this mystery slime is making new headway back into the market. Here is a recent quote: "Beef Products Inc. (BPI), the South Dakota-based meat processing company at the center of 2012’s “pink slime” controversy, just won a long-sought semantic victory. For years, the company has argued that its signature product is safe, wholesome, and not unlike everyday burger meat. Now, BPI has enlisted a powerful ally in its effort to recoup its image and reclassify its product: the federal government.

After a months-long evaluation, the United States Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) determined in December that BPI’s signature product—the offering famously called “pink slime” in an ABC News exposé that got the network in a lot of trouble—can be labeled “ground beef.” Legally speaking, it’s now no different from ordinary hamburger, and could even be sold directly to the public." The original date of this post was sometime during the year of 2010.

There are many reasons to have air purifiers in your home, and it doesn’t hurt to have several scattered throughout your house since most modern purifiers use very little electricity – due to their highly efficient fan motors and lightweight rotors, wheels and/or blades.

…Indoor air pollution is more common than most folks would think, and this is especially important for the ones who suffer from allergies.

Speaking of that, if you are concerned about indoor pollution, you may also be interested in my post entitled “Aromatherapy – Healthier Alternatives to Scented Candles,” that I wrote a while back. On another health-related note, if you’re more interested in eliminating toxins from your body, visit the “Milk Thistle – Liver Detox” page.

Okay, this particular post is about Secondhand Smoke vs. Air Purifiers. Of course, the best way to eliminate tobacco smoke in your home, is to simply do all of your smoking outside, use a designated area or room that is closed from the rest of the house, or take the more challenging option by quitting all together.

In general, most air purifiers are built to reduce large & small air borne particles such as dust, pollen, mold spores, pet dander, miscellaneous allergens, etc. However, they are less effective at reducing secondhand smoke, but some are far better than others. Don’t even bother wasting your money on the ionic purifiers that are found on the market, that is, if you’re concerned about reducing secondhand smoke in your home. You should always go with the ones that come with a pre-filter, charcoal layer, and a changeable filter. The pre-filter is washable and should never need replaced – it is used to catch the larger particles and to increase the life of your main filter.

If you’re looking to save money while using a more effective method at reducing tobacco smoke from the place that you dwell, take heed to this: Since most (even the ones that claim to be reusable) changeable HEPA filters (High Efficiency Particulate Air filter) will lose their effectiveness after cleaning/washing them, they need to be completely changed. So, after your expensive filter (that comes with the machine) becomes dirty, don’t bother replacing it with the factory recommended filter. Just go out and buy a high-quality filter medium for a central heat & air unit and cut it into pieces that will fit into your air purifiers. You can often buy a big sheet of this filter medium for just a few dollars and, in turn, make several small-sized filters for your existing purifiers. Not only can you afford to change them out more often for a more effective smoke removal method, but you also no longer have to spend all that money on the name-brand, custom-fit filters. When buying these large filters, I do suggest that you spend a couple extra dollars and get one that also comes with a charcoal layer for extra filtration and odor removal properties.

Below, I’ll provide a link to a variety of air purifier related products. Personally, I just go with the simple, reliable Holmes Purifiers. I’ve used them for years without any trouble. Besides improving the air quality, I also keep a couple of them running in my bedroom for the mild roaring sound; the soothing noise acts as a natural sleep aid, for me. Anyway, another alternative to reduce secondhand smoke in your home, is to either use or install exhaust fans in a designated room or rooms. If standing under it while smoking, a well-functioning exhaust fan installed in the ceiling will suck the smoke right out and, depending on how it is installed, blow it either into your attic or out through the exhaust pipes that leads to the top of your roof to send the smoke outside, back into nature to settle naturally.

Shopping (Affiliate) Link:

‘Click Here’ for a large variety of Air Purifiers

Image Credit: Product Image - Fair Use - Amazon.com

---End of Post "Secondhand Smoke vs. Air Purifiers"
Obscurely Diversehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00093125094173965474noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2500803112835450346.post-65761310883120795442022-01-31T19:11:00.001-08:002022-01-31T19:14:24.911-08:00Looking for Infinity Mirrors or Tunnel Lights?

This is an old blog post that I moved here from a website of mine that I recently deleted. Many people haven’t heard of them, so I’ll provide a few pics below:

Even though, when lit up, Infinity Mirrors (some folks call 'em "Tunnel Lights") appear to have a lot going on, it is really just a simple mirror trick. You are merely looking through a double-sided mirror that reflects back to a one-sided mirror that is seated a short distance behind it. The LED lights add to the infinity effect and it’s also what gives it that extra pizzazz. I took one apart, that I purchased a while back, to see how it was made and said, “oh, that’s it?”

If you’re feeling a little crafty and don’t mind tinkering around, you can also attempt to make your own. You’ll need: One regular mirror, a double-sided mirror, a frame with whatever design you can find, LED lights, and a 9v power source. You can always do a web search using the keywords “How to create an Infinity Mirror,” to find additional detail that hopefully comes with illustrations and step-by-step instructions.

Personally, I’d rather buy one online with a unique design as opposed to using some old frame that I found by chance, just to slap one together. Actually, if you’re going to make an Infinity Mirror (Tunnel Lights?) by hand, you should probably just go ahead and create/design your own framework, as well.

I have only owned one of these mirrors, at the time I'm writing this, and it has only shined in all its glory for a few brief minutes. Here’s what happened: I bought this antique-looking Egyptian Infinity Mirror, after spending a solid 100 bucks for it. Well, I decided to take it over to my mom’s house to show it off. I hooked it up and it was utterly spectacular. I loved the way it looked while it was illuminated, and so did everyone else that seen it. …Okay, so I go ahead and visit her for a while, since I hadn’t been over there in a couple weeks. I had no idea my stepdad was attempting to perform some electrical work in the attic, and, due to him not knowing what in the hell he was doing, something surged through the power lines and fried my damn LED Lights in my Ancient Egyptian Infinity Mirror! The only good thing was, it still looked fairly nifty, even when it wasn’t working; however, for future reference, if some moron happens to fry your Infinity Mirror’s light system, it isn’t much trouble to replace the LED lights or the power supply/source.

If you’re interested in buying Infinity Mirrors, you may have to search online from a variety of websites to find what you’re looking for. Amazon.com doesn't always have the unique tunnel lights, but they typically have a decent selection of the more affordable infinity mirrors and, well, even the cheap ones. The really cool ones (like the Ancient Egyptian one I own) are usually on the expensive side, but often worth the price tag – depending on the unique design. You can always start your search below, and go from there...

Shopping (Affiliate) Link:

"Search Amazon for Infinity Mirrors"

Image Credits: Product Images - Fair use

Related Post: Himalayan Salt Products, Lamps, Tea Light Candle Holders...

---End of Post "Looking for Infinity Mirrors or Tunnel Lights?"
Obscurely Diversehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00093125094173965474noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2500803112835450346.post-79427622469128703352022-01-30T19:11:00.002-08:002022-01-30T19:13:11.575-08:00Healthier Alternatives for Scented Candles – Aromatherapy...
This is an old post that I recently moved here from a deleted website of mine. The original date of this post was sometime during the year of 2010. Yeah, several years have passed since then. In fact, I don't even use candles of any type, anymore. Ha! But back to the retrospective subjects at hand...

I’ve known this for a while, as the initial realization disconcerted my candle-lighting self, that most candles (especially scented) are, unfortunately, not good for you.

I used to light these things all the time, especially the tea lights within Himalayan Salt rocks and candle holders. The ones containing Paraffin wax, as most store-bought candles do, are not your friend; they’re your foe. Paraffin is a petroleum product, so you already know from here, the resulting diagnosis from this petrochemical is not going to be complimentary to your well-being. The black smoke and soot that emits from these lovely candles, ends up in your lungs; toxic chemicals enter your body, and so on.

To cut right down to simple, candid talk: It is never good to breathe smoke albeit some is worse than others. The prior statement is personally semi-contradictory, coming from me, since I enjoy sporadic campfires and relish cigarettes with my endeared beer time. In my case, I was just trying to cut down on toxins, so I eliminated scented paraffin candles from my home. I still light them on rare occasions, but I try to have healthier alternatives available.

Oh wait, there’s more: Many of these candles and tea lights found at local retailers, have a metallic-based wick that usually contains lead. The next thing you know, we have petroleum by-products in addition to lead – getting set aloft in our homes, all due to those nice smelling, sexy, lighted candles. The scented ones have even more unhealthy additives and artificial dyes added to the Paraffin wax – which leads to additional toxins; if you burn them often, it is wise to seek healthier choices.

Recommendations:

Try aromatherapy candles that are made of natural oils and make sure they have a paper wick without metal or wires.

Beeswax candles are considered to be one of the safest alternatives.

It would probably be easier to simply shop online, when it comes to finding candles that contain natural wax. If you’re a spry, do-it-yourself type person, soy-based aromatherapy candles are not that difficult to make. Once you get your supplies together, the steps fall right into place. You can always search on the web for how-to advice, by typing “how to make your own aromatherapy soy candles” or similar search terms, etc.

Say good-bye to burning flames from artificial origins and say hello to a new, natural form of illuminating bliss.

Below, are the few comments this post garnered on the old website that I recently deleted:

Comment #1 - Amanda says:

This is so true. I’m a big candle lover and a couple years ago I started making my own aromatherapy soy candles. They are easy to make, and it is sooo worth it.

Comment #2 - Magnolia says:

Yes, I make my own soy candles, and every Christmas, I have a big list of people waiting for their candles. Just make sure you follow the directions to the letter. Read everything first, then make your candles. I know the other candles are bad for you, but really how often do people burn them? Usually during sex, so that is only 15 minutes a week…LOL! Maybe less!! Of course, I have a candle burning in the bathrooms when I have guests for obvious reasons.

The bottom line, most people really do not burn any candles all that much. The little bit of toxin in the air will not harm an adult, but it could affect children and small pets, so ... just use common sense and I think you will be okay. Another thing you can do…get an oil lamp, fill it with olive oil and essential oil for scent and then light it up! Olive oil burns pure. Another interesting and informative subject…thanks!

Comment #3 - Administrator says:

Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah, my girlfriend has made them before and claims that soy candles are easy to make. Personally, I take the easy/lazy way out and simply buy the aromatherapy candles with natural oils. I may break down eventually and try to make my own.

---End of Comments

Shopping (Affiliate) Link:

Search Amazon for Aromatherapy Soy Candles

Semi-related Post: "Is Aluminum really dangerous to our health?"

---End of Post "Healthier Alternatives for Scented Candles – Aromatherapy..."
Obscurely Diversehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00093125094173965474noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2500803112835450346.post-68118897747586833032022-01-29T18:39:00.001-08:002022-01-29T18:39:29.708-08:00Going from Wing Chun to Jeet Kune Do

This is an old blog post that I moved here from a deleted website of mine. The original post date is sometime toward the end of the year 2012.

For many years, I have been very interested in martial arts. I was first inspired by Bruce Lee at the early age of 7 years old. I first watched the film Enter the Dragon during that time frame and was mainly fascinated with nunchucks (nunchaku). Not long after watching that film, I made a pair out of two wooden sticks, a small chain and 2 nails used to hold the chain into each piece of wood. Yes, at age 7, I already thought I was a kung-fu master. I took my cheaply made nunchucks, invited a neighborhood kid to come over, and let him use them for a while … but after seeing that he was having great difficulty, I took them from him, did a few moves and busted him over the head. The kid fell to the ground, then got up holding his head and took off running to his parents while crying loudly. I was in trouble; the parents came over to talk to mine, but nothing came of it, other than he wasn’t allowed to come over and play anymore. My dad decided to go buy me some practice-style nunchucks that were made of foam. Who in the hell wants foam nunchucks?

Anyway, years later, I now not only have a huge collection of real nunchucks ranging from metal, wood, and glow-in-the-dark acrylic, mini-chucks, tele-chucks, studded, you name it, I also have a huge array of various Martial Arts weapons.

…None of that may have to do with my favorite style of Wing Chun and Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do, but the point is, I showed an interest early on and went through various studies and different styles before realizing just what the core philosophies behind Bruce’s Jeet Kune Do really was. It was a combination of multiple styles, but unlike traditional martial arts, there was no particular style or traditions in Jeet Kune Do. If something worked you kept it, and if other aspects of a style was a waste or not as efficient, you trashed it. Jeet Kune Do doesn’t try to be showy and flashy either, as one of the main principles is the simplicity and the way of the intercepting fist.

One of Bruce Lee’s primary, original styles was Wing Chun. There for the longest he kept his kicks below the waist and mainly incorporated the direct movements, trapping, and blocking techniques of Wing Chun. Out of all the styles, it is by far my favorite. If one could take some extra grappling classes and perhaps learn some pressure point techniques in combination with this style, you would, in my opinion, be better equipped than most martial artists of today.

If anybody knows very much about this subject, they will also be very familiar with what is known as a Wing Chun Dummy. This particular wooden dummy is a thick wooden post with three arms and a leg mounted on a slightly springy frame representing a stationary human opponent. Although representative of a human opponent, the dummy is not a physical representation of a human, but an energetic one. Wooden dummy practice aims to refine a practitioner’s understanding of angles, positions, and footwork, and to develop full body power. It is here that the open hand forms are pieced together and understood as a whole. Personally, I find these things to be way too expensive.

When I was a teenager, a basic wooden Wing Chun Dummy cost around six or seven hundred plus. Now, after checking on the web, these things are up to over a thousand dollars! This is another reason why I used to build my own. Yes, it was a cheap imitation, but I’d go out in the woods and build with trees, to practice this style of martial arts. Another good thing about using these wooden targets, is that it toughens up your arms and blocking areas, such as your forearms.

[Update: 1-29-2022 - As time went on, they must have found a way to manufacture theseWing Chun Dummies at a cheaper price because I recently checked Amazon and you can now find them in the 4-to-5-hundred-dollar range. Are they made cheaper? Most likely. Are they still fully functional? More than likely. Are they as good as the autnetic ones of the past? I doubt it.]

Anyway, I’m not going to promote the idea of kicking and punching trees, albeit it is cheaper than the Wing Chun Dummy; ha! One thing that I never was pleased with, concerning Wing Chun, was their lack of weaponry. Advanced students got to use large Butterfly Knives (a little shorter than short swords), a.k.a. Double Knives, and what they called a Long Pole. At any rate, I suppose it doesn’t matter in my case, because I have enough weapons to perform my own training without the limitation of a style or a tradition (hey, that sounds like Jeet Kune Do).

The title of this post sort of represents Bruce’s transition from Wing Chun to his own form of martial arts, Jeet Kune Do. Now, I can’t type about every style and method he tried and tested throughout his short life, as it would take way too long. However, I will say that I have never heard of a guy training harder than he did. At age 13, Bruce Lee started lessons in the Wing Chun style of kung-fu for self-defense reasons. Well, over the next 19 years, he transformed his knowledge into a science, an art, a philosophy and a way of life. In fact, while reading over his main book, best seller, “Tao of Jeet Kune Do,” I was more interested in his philosophy than anything else. I bought my copy about 17 years ago, and actually waited a couple years before reading it because at the time I was still studying some of the more ancient arts of kung-fu.

I’ve did most of my training via self, although I have taken traditional Karate classes that I found to be rather limiting. I detest being restricted to a certain style or limited to a certain way of thinking, etc. This applies to a lot of things in life, which Bruce Lee obviously integrated into his way of fighting. I remember when taking classes, I’d have a few minutes before class started to practice my own moves, etc. Then the sensei would come into the room, and here we go with boring, boring, basic stiff moves. That reminds me of another aspect of Wing Chun, as it thrives on relaxed muscles, as tension reduces punching speed and power. This also helps with the center-line punches & movements. Wing Chun techniques are generally “closed,” with the limbs drawn in to protect the central area and also to maintain balance. In most circumstances, the hands do not move beyond the vertical circle that is described by swinging the arms in front, with the hands crossed at the wrists. To reach outside this area, footwork is used. A large emphasis and time investment in training Chi Sao exercise emphasizes positioning to dominate this center-line. The stance and guard all point at or through the center to concentrate physical and mental intent of the entire body to the one target.

Well, I’ve rambled enough about this subject. I’ll leave it up to you to do your research on Wing Chun and Bruce Lee’s awesome Jeet Kune Do way of life…

Shopping (Affiliate) Links:

* ‘Click Here’ for a Fine Selection of Wing Chun Dummies

* 'Click Here' for the book: Tao of Jeet Kune Do

Image Credits: Product Images - Fair Use

—End of Post "Going from Wing Chun to Jeet Kune Do"
Obscurely Diversehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00093125094173965474noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2500803112835450346.post-33855673344189089072015-02-22T13:44:00.002-08:002021-11-02T07:46:15.991-07:00New Fetish: The 'Human Barbie Doll' Look

Depicted above is one of the many who have took part in this new crazed
fetish. Valeria Lukyanova, also known as the "Human Barbie," went viral
earlier this year after the images of this attractive 21-year-old blonde
model entered the online kingdom. Many folks are wondering if she got
plastic surgery or if most of these online photos are merely Photoshop,
etc. If in doubt, go online and perform an image search for this type
of stuff... Anyway, some people even say she isn't real, for example.
Well, there is no doubt that she is a living, breathing human being.
However, she does claim that she is all natural and possesses this type
of Barbie Doll
look by using an awesome make-up job and is more focused on her
optimistic disposition and spiritual connection, going by what I've
read.

This individual shown above is not the only one I have seen the last few
years, that has really got into this new type of fetish. There was some
guy on TV a while back, that was striving to look just like the Barbie Doll
named Ken. Except this guy admitted to going through various types of
expensive surgeries and whatnot. Even though I found that particular
case to be totally ridiculous and a waste of money, it didn't cost me
anything so whatever floats your boat, dude. Other popular models have
somewhat tried to mock these childish figurines, but more times than not, the plastic surgery goes wrong somewhere down the line after trying to achieve this human Barbie Doll
look. I must give Valerie some credit, though, as she did really well on
this cosmetic aspect. Now, whether her boobs are real or if she had
additional plastic surgery, is another story. Personally, I prefer the
more all-terrain, big booty, sexy-but-tough look, sort of like the girls
you often see in rap videos while "shaking what their momma gave 'em,"
as they say; ha!

I was just looking at this semi-interesting gardening aid today, known as seed tape, and was thinking how it could be fairly useful for those pesky small seeds that almost seem invisible once they hit the dirt. You know, the really tiny seeds like beets, radishes, carrots, lettuce, spinach, turnips, etc. Most of the stuff I plant usually has medium to large seeds, but the seed tape could come in handy for the micro seeds, I suppose.

This is an extremely simple concept with environmentally friendly
features. The paper and adhesive from this tape is biodegradable and
compostable. It's an easy way to sow small seeds,
no doubt. This gardening tape is pre-glued for your convenience. The
printed increments on the tape makes the proper spacing of your seeds a
cinch. You just dig out your spot/row, put the seeds on the
biodegradable tape, place it in the trench/furrow and cover it up with
the dirt and add some water.

Will I try this amazingly simple product this year? No, probably not.
LOL! I'd rather spend my extra money on more plants and fertilizer,
additional soil, and so on. However, I just thought I'd mention this in
case some of y'all sow a lot of tiny seeds and have trouble getting your
garden rows straight. Personally, I don't care if my plants come up in a zig-zag fashion, just as long as they come up, thrive, and produce; cheers!

Update: A few years after I posted this, I ended up trying this for some radishes and carrots. These things work great! It is really convenient, for sure... The only thing, though, is I bought the kind that already has the seeds inside the tape. The product described on this post, you have to manually put your own seeds in there, but I doubt if that would be much more trouble. Plus, they sell both versions, etc.

The next part of this update doesn't really relate to the "seed tape for small seeds" title, but it does relate to growing food. Well, to make it short, I got tired of not being able to grow any type of food crops during the winter, so I got into Hydroponics for inside your home. I recently wrote a blog post about that, here: "Fastest Growing Plants for Indoor Mini Hydroponics."

---End of Update

Yeah, when I say long distance, I mean like half a mile away! If this
product does what it says it can, there will be a lot of people getting
free Internet service with their laptops and computers. A while back, I wrote a post that was entitled "What can disrupt your Wi-Fi Network Adapter?" on another website.

Anyway, a lot of people seemed to think that other folks in the
neighborhood were trying to tap off of my Internet connection, but since
it was a secure connection between the house computers, I'm assuming
that wasn't the case. It works better now, for whatever reason, and I
think my network adapter may be the one to blame. You can flip the thing
around or shake it some times, and it will start working fine for days.
Then, you can barely bump it and the damn thing will go out.

Regardless of that other, I'm glad I have a secure connection or else
everybody and their grandmother would be trying to tap off of me along
with anybody else that pays for their Internet in this area that has
unsecured home networks. If more and more people start buying these
long-distance Wi-Fi antennas, like the one shown above, the air waves
will be even busier than they already were (as if that really matters).
However, this would be a good option for somebody that lives close to a
hotspot in town that provides a public connection and whatnot. Now, if
you are living way out in the sticks, this product won't serve any
useful purpose.

The long-distance Wi-Fi antenna I looked at today, comes with a 25 foot
USB cable and it's actually an indoor and outdoor antenna, which of
course would mean that it is also water-resistant. The price range I've
seen thus far is from 60 dollars all the way down to 40 bucks. Well, I
thought I'd share this today since it seemed like a pretty good deal . .
. that is, if it can really pick up strong signals from half a mile
away; cheers!

Update: A few years after I originally posted this, I came back and checked the link below. Since the product line for this has changed so much over the years, I thought it would be best to just deactivate that particular shopping link. They still have similar products out there, but it would be better for the consumer to do their own searching, in this case. If anybody has found an excellent product under this genre and would like to share, feel free to drop a comment. ---End of Update

Now here is a childish spy gadget that many nosy adults would probably enjoy; ha! It is called the "Bionic Ear" and it's an electronic listening device
that suppose to enhance your spying potential. What I find funny about
this little contraption is that it's advertised as a kid's toy, but how
many small children do you know of that would think about privately
listening to conversations from 300 feet away? I don't know, maybe
things are different now, but when I was in Elementary school I had better things to do outside as opposed to pointing some bionic ear at a distant neighbor so I could eavesdrop for my sick-twisted listening pleasure.

Anyway, the bionic ear consists of an extremely sensitive microphone
that claims to be able to pick up soft whispers from a football field
away! You just look through the targeting scope thingy and squeeze the
trigger to amplify your desired target's sounds/chatter/conversation.
Hell, if you combine this particular electronic device with the USB Hidden Spy Voice Recorder that I posted about earlier, you should be all set. LOL!

Update: I checked back on this device a couple years later and I see that it's still available. It looks like the price has dropped a little bit, so that's always nice. I also noticed a new product for sale (after following the shopping link below) that's a 2-in-1 spying device described as the Spy X Micro Eyes & Ears - which not only functions as a bionic ear (although I doubt it has the same range as the previous product) by helping you hear from far away, but also helps you see in the dark via night vision or something like that. However, the product reviews looked much better for the original electronic listening I was talking about at the beginning of the post, so it's most likely an inferior model, etc. At any rate, I was just adding a few more words to this post regardless if it was just a bunch of senseless twaddle; ha! ---End of Update
Now here is a fun book that is bound to be highly entertaining to the masses. It is called "The Klutz Book of Inventions,"
and it features over 160 crazy ideas for inventions that never hit the
market. Some of these ideas are so insane, they might actually work in a
world that isn't quite so mundane and confined to our common
practicalities; ha! This book demonstrates what it looks like when
creative geniuses meet insanity and utter lunacy. Hell, the guy pictured
on the book looks like he is showing a product that functions as a
helmet-based juicer that funnels the end-product directly to your mouth,
for example. LOL!

I haven't read this book yet, but just by reading a few of the examples,
it makes me curious and somewhat interested. Some of the ones on the
book review mentioned a coin-return couch, a flip-up car sign so you'd
never lose your car in the parking lot, a type of pants that redirects
your farts (WTF?), a tricycle-lawnmower combo, and so much more. It is a
hardcover-spiral book with 198 pages of entertaining material. Although
none of these products are currently being sold on the market, some of
them may trigger a cool idea for a practical invention. Who knows?
Either way, I thought I'd share this today in case some of y'all are
looking for a different type of medium that is full of crazy ideas that
obviously went astray.
This is a nifty little device that could have many valuable uses.
Whether you are using it to record lectures, random thoughts, etc., or
to use as a hidden spy tactic, this USB voice recorder has a very low
profile and is extremely easy to use. The one shown here holds up to 8GB
of memory, which they claim that it equates to about 150 hours of
recordings. It easily plugs into your computer's USB drive
(while simultaneously charging it) so you can playback your recordings
via .WAV files. I've seen a price range of just under 20 bucks all the
way up to nearly 40 dollars, depending on the brand, size of the memory,
etc.

The sound quality, going by one of the customer reviews, suppose to be
about as good as the ancient portable cassette recorders of the past.
Without the bulk of the old-style recorders, one could easily have this
in a shirt pocket without anybody knowing about it. Personally, I've
never needed a hidden spy voice recorder, but if I did, this is the type
I would buy. Even if you dropped it in front of someone, most people
wouldn't know what it was because it looks like a typical USB charging
device. Anyway, I just thought I'd share this product today, in case any
of y'all were needing to go undercover; ha-ha!

Update: I went back after a couple of years since I originally posted this to check on updated prices, products, etc. It seems that the cost for these little recorders haven't changed much. After clicking on the link below, I did notice a lot more spy related gadgets on the market. I must say, if I didn't go with this particular style, I would probably buy the ones that look like little pens, instead. I mean, a writing pen that performs similar sneaky tasks such as this one would be fairly stealthy, wouldn't you say? Plus, this product sort of looks like a flash drive, so if you had it laying around, some nosey person may go and try to stick it into their computer or laptop only to find out it's a recording device; ha!
I know there are a lot of Trekkers out there, and Star Trek is one of
the most popular science fiction shows around. Personally, I always
liked the original series the best, but to each their own. The Next
Generation seemed pretty good, too, but I only watched the first few
seasons of that one and I have no idea about all the new ones out there
now.

Anyway, for the ones that liked the original series, a lot of you may
not realize that they made an animated series a few years after they
quit making the regular episodes. The box says 1973 - 1974. Well, I
received mine as a gift several years ago. At first, I was reluctant to
watch them right away, because I thought that since they were animated,
the quality must have been compensated and that the plots most likely
sucked. Well, after watching a few of them, I was surprised. They were
pretty good and it is a must-have for any original Star Trek collector.

The DVD set comes with all 22 episodes of the animated adventures of
Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek. I don't know how much it costs now, but
mainly because I got mine free - since it was a gift; ha! At any sci-fi
rate, I just thought I'd share that today; cheers!
Some of you may be like "they had a television series?" If so, don't
feel bad, as I first became aware of this a couple years ago. In fact,
out of the five movies they made (shown in the 2nd image), I only
watched the original flick. I have the other 4 movies on DVD, but they
are just sitting there collecting dust for some strange reason.

Anyway, they made a Planet of the Apes television series in 1974. The
complete TV series contains 14 episodes. Believe it or not, they were
actually pretty good! I was surprised, especially after finding out they
got cancelled after their first year. I've read and heard before that
the reason they didn't make it, was because of two other highly
competitive shows on NBC they were airing during that same time
frame/television channel, etc. The two shows that supposedly put the
Planet of the Apes' TV series out of business was: 1) Sanford and Son 2)
Chico and the Man

Well, I just thought I'd share this today in case some of y'all wasn't
aware of this particular series. It sort of reminds me of when I did a
post about Star Trek: The Animated Series on another website before, since many of
y'all were not aware of that one, as well.
Part 1:
How many times have you heard fantastical headlines about some bizarre
alien planet that is "newly discovered" by so-called scientists, only to
hear that it probably doesn't have a chance for being habitable and/or
that it is hundreds of light years away? Well, here is a recent
example...

Headline: 'Godzilla of Earths' Detected Around an Alien Sun

Intro: "Scientists have just discovered the "Godzilla of Earths" — a new
type of huge and rocky alien world about 560 light-years from Earth."

They later went on to say that it is most likely impossible for it to harbor life, as if it would make a damn.

Garbage Source = www.nbcnews.com/science/space/godzilla-earths-detected-around-alien-sun-n120441

Verdict: Who cares!?

I mean, seriously, who in the hell cares that a group of people think
that they found a giant rocky planet that wasn't gaseous within a 600
light-year radius? I'm not in the least bit a science & discovery
hater or anything of the like, but my gawd! I'd rather read the cartoon
section as opposed to pondering about the chemical composition of a
planet that freakin' far away. As the old adage states: Let's be real!

In the mean time, we should probably ponder over how much money is
wasted on studying planets that are hundreds of light years away.

---End of Post "Who cares about planets that are hundreds of light years away?"

The post above reminds me of another older post I wrote a while back. Since I'm moving my posts around to other websites & blogs, I thought I'd just add it to this one, as well.

Part 2: Giant Alien Planet Discovered

Great news, folks! Not! Ha-ha! They just found some giant, useless alien
planet out in the Cosmos, that will not change one single aspect of
your life. The only people this affected, were the ones that thought
they had their planetary formation theories correct. First of all, this
foreign/alien planet is suppose to be about 11 times bigger than
Jupiter. Yeah, that's a big one!

What threw a monkey wrench into the picture, is that it orbits a star
that is extremely far away. It is roughly 650 times farther away than
the Earth is from its Sun and, to get a better understanding, the orbit
of this newly discovered planet is 20 times farther away from its star
than Neptune is from the Sun. Wow! No basking in the Sun from that
planet! Anyway, going by their current formation "models," a planet of
that size shouldn't have formed that far away from its star. Even if the
planet was meant to be a star but lacked the mass to ultimately turn
into one, it still doesn't add up for these researchers.

A couple quotes from the source page: "Every new directly detected
planet pushes our understanding of how and where planets can form.
Discoveries like HD 106906 b provide us with a deeper understanding of
the diversity of other planetary systems." Read more about this
discovery, here: www.nbcnews.com/science/enormous-alien-planet-discovered-most-distant-orbit-ever-seen-2D11703497

My day is much better now, after knowing that several researchers are even more confused than they already were. LOL!

There is an obvious market out there that caters to our toxic world, but
that doesn't mean that there isn't a lot of bogus products out there.
While Himalayan salt products are well known for being a healthy
alternative, these particular detox patches that you supposed to slap on
your feet seem to be slightly, uh, scam-like. The concept behind this
product is that the salt will draw out unwanted toxins through your
feet. You suppose to wear these patches when you sleep, for 5 days in a
row. They are usually sold as 10 patches (Two 5-day regimens).

By what I could tell, the main proponents of this product are the ones
selling it. The other reviews I read, didn't sound so favorable, except
for this one person that was amazed at how dirty their patch was after
using it. Hmm... I mean seriously, if Himalayan salt is going to be used
for your health, wouldn't it be better to just buy the bath salts or
simply eat the freakin' salt? A good link that provides a detailed
review, can be found here: doesitreallywork.org/himalayan-salt-detox-patches-review/

There are so many ways to assist your body with the detoxification
process, albeit your kidneys and liver (if functioning halfway normal)
supposed to do most of the work anyway. Simply monitoring what you eat,
drink and breathe goes a long way, but who knows, maybe this product
actually helps. I just posted this in case somebody knew for sure if
this product was bogus or not.

This is a really simple, cheap alternative to making homemade doughnuts.
Your main ingredients are a can of biscuits, the oil to fry them in,
and whatever you use to glaze 'em with. There is no magical recipe here!
If you can poke a doughnut hole in the dough, you should be good to go!
LOL!

This is also one of those things that you will most likely master on
your 2nd or 3rd batch. Frying 'em just right and finding the perfect
glaze/topping, is the key. The few times I have did this, I have found
that the basic cheap biscuits tend to be the best and easiest to fry.
You don't want some fancy super-biscuit with multiple layers or
artificial butter flavoring, either.

When it comes to the glaze, I've used chocolate syrup mixed with butter,
sugar, etc. I think most doughnut glazes consist of sugar, butter,
salt, milk, and vanilla extract. I'm not a glaze guru, so I'll let you
figure out that part. I'm just posting this as an idea, in case you are
one of those that was like me when I first heard of this: "Oh, cool...
I've never really thought about using biscuit dough for doughnuts. This
sounds so easy!" Yeah, it is. Now, would I rather have some freshly
baked Krispy Kreme chocolate glaze doughnuts? Yeah, but this cheap
recipe for homemade doughnuts comes in handy when, say, you have an
extra can of biscuits that you didn't use for breakfast, for example.
Cheers!

I'm mainly jotting down this quick post for my own reference. One of the
other good things about free-hosted websites/blogs, is that you can use
'em sort of like free data storage (except the ones that require
hosting fees). At any rate, I'd like to take a moment and type out a
perfect blend of ingredients that makes an awesome batch of golden,
cake-like Mexican cornbread. ...Of course you can add and subtract to
any recipe or get extra creative with your Mexican cornbread, but I
wanted to write this down (for future reference) so I can remember what
recently worked best for me.

You'll need 2 large eggs, 1 cup of milk, 1/4th cup of oil (whichever
type you prefer) plus a small amount to grease the 8 x 8 or 9 x 9 pan, 1
1/2 cups of yellow corn meal, 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 1/4th cup of
sugar, 2 large jalapenos, 1/2 can of corn, and the optional dried onion
seasoning, fresh green onions, seasoned salt, hot sauce and black
pepper.

I mix all of the ingredients listed above in a large bowl, then pour the
batter into a greased 8 x 8 baking pan. I heat the oven to 450 degrees
and bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until it is golden brown.

I have made this twice recently, but both times it got devoured before I
thought of taking a picture of this extremely delicious cake-like
cornbread. So, I had to use a Wikipedia image of jalapenos, for a
pictorial substitute.

Like I've said in the past, although I don't practice any of that
boogy-boogy metaphysical healing stuff, I used to collect many of the
stones and crystals that were affiliated with this woo-woo, simply for decorative purposes. However, out of my vast collection, selenite
is the only one I ended up throwing away. Now, if you read about all of
the metaphysical glory this junk has, you'd think one would surround
their entire house with it. I've even read that selenite removes energy blockages from physical and etheric bodies. Read more about the "healing" properties, here: www.healingcrystals.com/Selenite_Articles_53.html

I also recall reading several years ago that if bad things start
happening when you surround yourself with this stuff, get rid of it.
Well, after having this selenite
crap in my home for a couple years, I decided that it didn't do anything
but bring bad luck, arguments, conflict, etc., for me, so I threw it
all away. Yeah, it was supposed to open the gates of energy from my
etheric body and whatnot, so evidently the energy blockages that I had before
the selenite entered my home were a good thing after all; ha-ha!

Plus, selenite is a soft mineral, scratches easy, and smells funny when it's heated. One may ask, "why would you heat your selenite?" Well, a lot of the selenite that I purchased acted as candle holders,
so when they would get hot, they emitted a weird smell to say the
least. At any metaphysical rate, I just thought I'd share these tidbits
today. The one shown on this post is from the actual company that I
purchased a lot of stones, crystals, and Himalayan salt rocks from.
Of course, smoking tobacco is the primary cause of lung cancer, but living in a home with high levels of radon while also being a smoker, really ups your odds of developing lung cancer, to say the least. At any rate, Radon is a health hazard and the testing and elimination of this harmful, radioactive gas comes with a simple solution.

Personally, I've never really worried about radon gas that much, since the house I spent half of my life in was well ventilated and insulated about like a barn, it seems. Basically, the cool air from the air conditioners and the warm air from the heaters would seem to go out of the house about as quick as it went in. Yeah, the electric bills were always high, but hey, I always had fresh air; ha!
The last few years, though, I have lived in 3 different houses. All 3 were insulated well, had cheaper electric bills, but the air was more humid, stuffy, and less fresh. This is when I started thinking more about air pollution, radon, etc. So, I went online and found a map that showed the areas in the US that typically had the highest levels of radon gas. Sure, if the map showed my area was good for the most part, I would have skipped the testing process and most likely forgot about it. However, the map showed that my area was in the high zone so there I was, looking online for testing kits. Plus, I noticed when I broke up the ground for garden season this year at my new home, the ground was really rocky here and radon gas is well-known for being higher in rocky soil, etc.

But before we go any further, check out the Radon Map below:

After viewing that map, I must remind you that even if you live in Zone 3, which appears to be fairly safe, it doesn't mean you are automatically in the clear. For example, your neighbor could have low levels of radon gas in the home, while your levels are much higher, even though you live a few feet away. The way the house is built, the amount of time you spend in the house, how much airflow it has, what's going on inside the soil, etc., are all factors that vary from place to place. Now, they say that radon can be high in any home, whether it is drafty, well-insulated, etc., but common sense tells me that houses that breathe better are not going to trap as much of this gas.

Upon receiving negative results, some may ask: "What do I do? How do I reduce my levels inside my home? Well, don't panic if your test results come back bad, though, because radon mitigation systems are easy to install and are very effective. True, they are a bit pricey, but it is well worth it, I'd say, since your health is the most important thing. ...And another thing, Radon Gas is everywhere (but you can't taste or smell it) albeit the normal outside levels are less than 0.4 pCi/L. If you test your home and it is much over 4 pCi/L, then you may want to think about radon mitigation systems and/or making some changes to your home. People with levels of 10 to 20 pCi/L definitely need to think about fixing their radon problem, especially if you smoke in addition to living in a home with high levels of this radioactive gas.
Now, to get a quick idea about radon gas, the testing process, and what you can do if your levels are high in your home, I'll provide a video that is entitled "Breathing Easier: An Informational Radon Video," below:
Radon Gas Testing Kits

Below, I will provide an Amazon link that relates to Radon Gas Test Kits. You can buy the less expensive, one or two-time testing kits online or at some hardware stores, but personally, I went ahead and purchased the expensive one (the radon detector) that you plug in, for a couple reasons. The first reason was because I can plug in and out to test multiple homes for several years or however long the device keeps working. Secondly, I don't have to mail back my test results to get the radon readings in a few days. Plus, those little short-term kits really start to add up if you buy several, so why not go all the way and buy the long-term tasting device. Anyway, I'll provide a very helpful shopping (affiliate) link, below:

'Click Here' for a fine selection of Radon Gas Testing Kits

Mitigation Fans

What to do if your level is high? Of course, you can call a professional that specializes in this field, that is located within your area code. However, many people like to do things their self and there are many how-to pages and guides online. I know that many folks end up buying those radon mitigation fans, systems, etc., so I'll provide a basic shopping link below, to get you started. Hopefully, most people will not have to buy these, but if you have a dangerous level of this radioactive gas in your home, it might be a good idea.

Side Note: For those that get their water from an underground source such as a personal well and/or doesn't drink city or bottled water, you may also want to get your water tested. If radon is in your water, for example, it will also get into your house when you boil it, take hot showers, etc., via steam. If you're interested, you can always use the links above. Once you get to the landing page, you can use the search function to browse for water radon testing kits, as well.
Outside of the post I wrote today about "Roaster Oven Recipes," it has been quite a while since the Mundane Blog was fairly active.

So, I went back, dug up some old stats and seen which posts were the most popular, during 2012 - 13. I mainly do it for fun and for curiosity, although I'm rarely surprised. Most of the time, any informative, well written post gets easily defeated by some quickly written entry filled with images of sexy babes, etc. Ah hell, ya can't blame 'em, really, as who needs all those words when you can just do an image search and find half-naked or totally naked women online? Ha!

Anyway, I probably should have made a top 10 post list, but since 5 seemed to be by far the most popular via search (mostly image searches, it seems), we'll go with that.

1) 'Prayer by Letters' Religious Scams & Stupid People - this post blew the others out of the water. It was by far the number one most popular post for this blog. I don't know if it was the religious scams part or the stupid people that reeled in the traffic; LOL!

2) Will the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) exist in the future? - even though it was by itself at 2nd place, with not a close 3rd in sight, something tells me that most of the searches for that post wasn't about the post office, but more about the girl sporting the tramp stamp I put at the end of that post... Ha-ha!

3) Oscar Mayer Hot Dogs vs. BallPark Franks - Who cares? - coming in at 3rd (barely), it is hard to believe that this many people are out there searching about these 2 types of hot dogs... Oh, wait a minute, maybe it was image searches for the girl I put at the end of that post, which was seductively eating a juicy frank... Hey, don't look at me! :)

4) Bikini & Lingerie Internet Model - Denise Milani - comes in at a close 4th, and it is to no surprise. It seems that everybody and their grandmother is online searching for a sneak peak at Denise's big boobs!

5) Bad SEO Advice & Blogging for Money - was a post I did while making fun of all the wanna-be SEO gurus out there. Needless to say, it had loads of traffic from spammers and, uh, SEO wanna-bes... Ha!

Well, there you have it...

Hey, I could easily make this post more popular too, just by adding a super sexy image of a hot babe. Hmm, lets see what I can do, below:

...Yeah, I think I'll name that image, "doggy style!"
But back to the subject at hand...

Part 1: "Butter Fried Sweet Potatoes – Not Yams!"

The following side dish is a great alternative to your common potatoes. Whether you’re a culinary guru and are just trying to add a little orange (steamed carrots are not the only option) to the greens and yellows on the dinner plate, looking for more Vitamin A sources, complex carbohydrates, something fried and yummy, or if you’re trying to add a little healthy sweetness to the mix, this side dish may be for you.

But before we begin, let's not confuse this vegetable with Yams! I actually detest that, as Yams are not even related to a Sweet Potato, yet many folks, even from the south, say “I like those fried yams!” A freakin’ Yam is the typical given name for a plant species in the genus Dioscorea (family Dioscoreaceae) that also forms edible tubers albeit they are much larger. These crazy-growing Yams are perennial herbaceous vines cultivated for the consumption of their starchy tubers in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean and Oceania. Although the sweet potato has, for whatever reason, been wildly referred to as a Yam in parts of the United States and Canada, it is not part of the family Dioscoreaceae, rather it is in the Morningglory family Convolvulaceae.

Even without all the scientific babble, Yams can grow up to nearly 5 feet in length, so be sure to let me know when you have seen a Sweet Potato grow to such size!

Oh, this food-related post is about Butter Fried Sweet Potatoes, so let's get on with it.

First of all, these are Sweet Potatoes, depicted below:

After you have realized that you are taking on some mighty Sweet Potatoes, the next thing to do is wash them and peel ’em. Ya know, sort of like you would common white potatoes and/or spuds, just before your make mashed potatoes. But hold your horses from this point, as you don’t begin to slice anything yet, and we sure as heck ain’t mashing anything (excuse my attempt to sound southern). Below, I’ll show an image of what step you should be at now, after peeling your potatoes. Please note, the plate of trimmings to the right in that image, as they are great to add to your compost pile or to just throw them out in your garden spot as vegetable waste, if you are into such things as the recycling of table scraps and organic compost, etc.

Okay, so you have your peeled Sweet Potatoes, not Yams, and now it is time to soften these suckers up, before they get sliced and butter fried. To do so, you need to grab a big pot, fill it with water and heat to a boil. …Add those orange potatoes into the boiling water and boil for about 6 or 7 minutes. Check out the steam below, as we let the good times roll on the stove-top…

From here, you drain the hot water, add some cold water and let cool for a few seconds. Then, you take each potato out and begin to slice into about 3/8th inch slices. Take a large skillet out, add a fair amount of butter and sprinkle a tablespoon of sugar around the pan. After everything gets hot and melted, add your sweet potatoes and begin to fry. Of course, feel free to add a little salt and black pepper onto at least one side of the potatoes while frying. The process should look something like this:

Now, although I elected to not go to the trouble to seek out wild, large, crazy Yams, the common Sweet Potatoes when butter fried with sugar, salt, and pepper, usually turn out like this:

Well, since this is a food-related post about a side dish, why not add an image of the current main dish and/or entree? Although I'm sure there are plenty of recipes out there for your crock pot, roaster ovens are something of a different nature. For one, they are much larger and can also be used as a crock pot or they can be used like a mini oven, which is what I like.
It is so much better to use for, say, cooking whole fryers or little hens during the summer, when you don't want to heat up the entire house. Not only does it save on electricity, the fact that it is right there for you to open the lid, add seasoning, check, etc., makes it so much more convenient.

In a reasonably sized roaster oven, you can cook a whole fryer that is 3.5 to 5lbs. at a rate of 13 to 15 minutes a pound, which isn't bad at all. The roaster oven I have, can hold two whole chickens this size and even more Cornish game hens. These little ovens are also great for beef roasts, lamb, pork of all kinds whether it be chops, country-style ribs, shoulder, you name it. Hell, you can even throw a bone-in smoked ham in there or a small turkey, if you wish!

Before I provide a quick link to a fine selection of roaster ovens, let's look for a couple sample recipes to give you some ideas. Oh, did I mention that baking pans can be placed on the roasting rack, as well? Yeah, some people even bake muffins, yeast rolls, brownies, cupcakes, pizzas, potatoes, sweet potatoes, etc., in this sucker. I noticed that there isn't a lot of online recipes for your roaster oven, at least not an abundance of them by what I could tell during a quick web search, so I'll check around the house.
...Okay, I did find a few sample roaster oven recipes, although most of them are rather basic. I'll list a few of them, but I must say, you don't really need 'em if you are creative or the slightest bit experienced, but you do need your roaster oven; ha!

Roaster Oven Recipes

Pot Roast with Vegetables

6 to 8lb. beef chuck roast 2 cups beef broth
2 cups baby carrots 1 tbs. salt
8 medium potatoes (peeled & quartered)
2 onions, quartered 1 tsp. black pepper

Place roast in bottom of cooking pan. Place vegetables around sides of roast. Add salt, pepper, and broth. Cover; cook at 300 degrees for 3 to 4 hours or until tender.

Hickory-smoked brisket

6 to 8lb. beef brisket 1 tsp. onion powder
1/2 cup liquid smoke 1 tsp. celery salt
1 tsp. garlic salt

Place brisket on a large piece of aluminum foil. Sprinkle generously with the liquid smoke and seasonings. Wrap the brisket with foil and crimp the edges. Place in cooking pan. Cover and cook in your roaster oven for 4 hours at 250 degrees.

Lemon Garlic Roast Chicken

7 to 8 lb. chicken 1/4 cup lemon juice
4 cloves garlic, minced 2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup butter 1 tsp. black pepper

Rinse chicken in cold water and pat dry with paper towels. Combine remaining ingredients and rub over skin and between skin and meat of chicken. Place roasting rack in cooking pan, then place chicken on roasting rack and cover. Bake in your oven for 2 to 2.5 hours at 350 degrees.

Asian Spare Ribs

4 large cloves of garlic, minced 2 tbs. sesame oil
1 tsp. five spice powder 2 tbs. minced fresh ginger
8 green onions, thinly sliced 1 tbs. chili puree
1/2 cup brown sugar 2 tsp. salt
8 tbs. hoisin sauce 6 to 8lbs. pork spare ribs, cut to fit

Combine first 8 ingredients to make marinade. Sprinkle ribs with salt and brush with marinade. Place ribs in cooking pan. Roast at 350 degrees for 1.5 to 2 hours.

That was just a few simple, easy-to-do recipes for your roaster oven. Of course, you can cook baked potatoes, beef stew, chili, soup, chicken tetrazzini for a crowd and so, so much more in this splendid little oven.
'Click Here' (Affiliate Link) for a Fine Selection of Roaster Ovens

I just started the Mundane Blog in August 2011, and here it is December 2011, 53 random posts later...

However, when it comes to this particular blog, this may be the last post for a while, since I will be on a transitory hiatus (from this site) while working on other online projects and stagnant websites of mine. I have like 6 sites to mess with, and it is hard to keep all of 'em updated all the time, so I often let some of them go dormant while I'm refreshing the content on others.

Anyway, I'll most likely return soon enough... So, since this may be the last post for a few weeks or more, I thought I'd drop down some links to some eye candy and, in this case, sexy Latex Fetish Models! Yummy!
I just built an image gallery today featuring what I like to call the "latex queen," Bianca Beauchamp. This babe is smokin' hot! I'll give a link to her gallery in a moment, along with a sample image just to get your engine started.

I'd hate to have just one girl featured under this particular fetish category, so I'll most likely add another babe to the latex mix; plus, the title does say "models" as in plural. Ha! In the event I add another gallery page, I'll come back by and update this post with another image and link to the new pictorial page. Okay, enough talk; let's get on with it...

Sample Image of the Fetish Model & Latex Queen, Bianca Beauchamp:
It is just something about scantily clad models with 32FF fake breasts, that gets me every time... Ha-ha! However, Bianca is also very seductive when fully covered in tight latex, let me tell ya...
Update:
I've added another image gallery under the latex category. Her name is Susan Wayland; she is a sexy German Fashion Model. I'll provide a sample image below and a link to her gallery page. Cheers!
She had 32DD breasts for several years, but recently upgraded to 32FF via additional implants. B. Beauchamp (I suppose you could say Bianca B. or perhaps B.B.) has become very successful in latex fetish modeling, appearing on the covers of various publications, magazines, etc. Her photos have also been in several Playboy Special Editions, and she has been on the cover of Playboy's "Girls of Canada" calendar, twice.

Bianca says, "Since 2011, I've been hard at work on continuing on improving on my latex and glamour photography." I moved to the city Brunswick, where I still live today. I like to read books with an historical theme - history has long fascinated me. So, the decision for my course of study was a simple one for me. Soon, I recognized how much I love working as a photo model, and I began to tackle my hobby now much more professionally than before. I started to work more actively in the modeling business, doing shoots with other photographers and designers for fetish, fashion, and glamour, and soon I got my first runway jobs as well. It was around in the year 2003 when I made an important personal decision for myself." Read more about her, here: "All About Susan W." float: left; height: 166px; margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; width: 200px;" />I recently stumbled across a video that spoke about the 10 most deadliest and/or lethal poisons (toxins) known to man, humans or however ya want to phrase it.

My first reaction was: Why would you want to air a video that broadcasts such things, as it may be fuel for an aimless idiot with nefarious intentions, to get motivated and scatter some of these proclaimed poisons of utter death and gloom. But then again, this is an open network here, so let's have some fun! Ha-ha!

From 10 to 1, the crazy, high-paced video speaks about the toxins: Cyanide, Anthrax, Sarin, Amatoxins, Strychnine, Mercury, Tetrodotoxin, Ricin, VX (used in chemical warfare as a nerve agent), and Botulinum Toxin (it is considered the most powerful neurotoxin ever discovered).

Watch the quick video "10 Deadliest Poisons Known to Humanity," below:

Since we are on this toxic subject, after viewing the video, I ran across a web page entitled "Deadliest poison known to man proves to be a savior," which spoke about one of those lethal toxins being used to help humans - in certain cases & doses, of course. [Link has been removed since they now require the reader to register to their website.]

Also, the highly toxic "Amatoxins" listed in the video, stems from the "Death Cap Mushroom."
I once promoted a product (and still do today), Milk Thistle, that was used long ago for combating the ill effects of the poisonous Death Cap; although I didn't bother mentioning it being used for amatoxins (since that is not a common reason to need Milk Thistle) on the page I'm about to link to, you can still find the post about this beneficial, herbal form of liver detox, here: "Liver Detox - Milk Thistle."

Anyway, I hope everybody steers clear from the poisons listed above, and that you found the quick flick interesting, for what it's worth...
Ha! Okay, maybe slightly otherworldly, but either way, moldavite is a part of Earth now...

There is some debate about the origin of this pretty-looking, glass-like crystal, but I'd say most people would agree that it came from some type of meteoric collision. Here's an excerpt from Wikipedia, stating such things: "It is also widely argued that the moldavite glass was formed 15 million years ago during the impact of a giant meteorite in present-day Nördlinger Ries. Splatters of rocks that were melted by the impact cooled while they were actually airborne and most fell in central Bohemia - traversed by Vltava river (German: Moldau). As such the glass can be found in the Czech Republic, Austria and Germany.
Isotope analysis of samples of moldavite have shown a beryllium-10 isotope composition typical of the Australasian and Ivory Coast tektites."

In case you're wondering, "tektites" simply means via Merriam-Webster Dictionary: a glassy body of probably meteoric origin. That definition is sort of funny because it is not often you'll see the word 'probably' when defining what a term means.

In metaphysics, which is how I came across these expensive, rare crystals while I was going through a phase where I was buying these metaphysical stones & crystals at an alarming rate - not to practice woo-woo metaphysics - but because I thought they were decorative and neat to look at; ha-ha!

Anyway, if you're an avid mystic, these mystery crystals from another world are believed by many to have special metaphysical powers and to supposedly be useful for the oddities that have incarnated into Earth from other sectors of the universe (I know the feeling - ha!). Hell, who knows, maybe it remedies nostalgia.

Personally, I think they are attractive but too expensive - due to their rarity. I read on Wikipedia that the total amount of Moldavite scattered around the world is estimated at only 275 tons. That isn't a whole lot, when you think about it in comparison with other things found on this planet. That 275 tons is counting all of the moldavite that hasn't been mined yet, so the number of circulated Moldavite would be even smaller.

Other uses besides the supposed metaphysical properties and its obvious ornamental use, is hand-crafted jewelry. I actually own a small piece of this otherworldly crystal, and it was quite expensive considering how small and lightweight it was. It was regular grade, as high-quality and/or museum grade would have been even more pricey.
Anyway, all this "from another world" talk brings me to the real reason for this post.
